1. 2014 WISCONSIN PUBLIC LIBRARY DIRECTORY AVAILABLE

The 2014 Wisconsin Public Library Directory from the Department of Public Instruction's Public Library Development Team is now online in PDF and Excel formats at http://pld.dpi.wi.gov/pld_lib_dir. The directory is based on data compiled from the 2013 Public Library Annual Report and subsequent, ongoing updates. Library directors are asked to please review the information for their libraries and report any corrections to libraryreport@dpi.wi.gov.

The PDF version at http://pld.dpi.wi.gov/sites/default/files/imce/pld/pdf/wipldir.pdf includes a combined "Directory of Public Libraries and Their Branches" listed by city, followed by an alphabetical index of library and branch names. The document also includes system and resource library directory information.

The Excel file at http://pld.dpi.wi.gov/sites/default/files/imce/pld/xls/wipldir.xls has three sheets containing information for all 383 public libraries and services, 82 branches, and the state's 17 regional library systems. This Excel file is useful as a merge source for mailing labels or form letters.

3. WISCONSIN TO OFFER ILEAD USA PROGRAM IN 2015

The Department of Public Instruction's (DPI) Division for Libraries and Technology (DLT) is pleased to announce that Wisconsin is joining the states partnering with the Illinois State Library in the ILEAD USA program during 2015.

Made possible through an Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian Program grant to the Illinois State Library, ILEAD USA (Innovative Librarians Explore, Apply and Discover) is a multi-state immersive program designed to help library staff understand and respond to user / community needs through the application of participatory technology tools. Participants will improve their skill set while developing and launching an ILEAD project that will tackle a specific need in their community. Examples of ILEAD projects undertaken in Illinois, Iowa, Colorado, Utah, and Ohio include the creation of a web portal for rural communities, a legal research site for students, a database of historic Illinois maps, web-based resources for the new GED exam, online book discussion resources, digital literacy skills for new Americans, and an author / illustrator database.

The ILEAD USA-Wisconsin program will have space for a maximum of five teams (five people per team). Each team will be encouraged to reflect the multi-type diversity of Wisconsin libraries (school, special, academic, and public); at least one member of each team must work in a public library. Each team will be assigned a mentor who will work closely with the team members. Three mandatory ILEAD USA sessions will be held during 2015: March 23-26, June 22-25, and October 26-29. The location for the 2015 ILEAD USA - Wisconsin sessions is currently being finalized. Team members and mentors must commit to attending all three sessions as well as devoting time between the three sessions to work on the team project.

While lodging and meals for team members and mentors during the three in-person sessions will be covered through grant funds, significant organizational support for library staff involved with ILEAD USA - Wisconsin will be essential, such as travel to-and-from the three mandatory sessions, wages or salary, and costs associated with carrying out the localized projects.

Complete ILEAD USA - Wisconsin details and application forms will be available on the DPI / DLT's website mid-September with an anticipated deadline of late November. The opening of the application period will be announced here and through other channels. Please contact Denise Anton Wright, Public Library Administration Consultant with the DPI / DLT with questions at 608-266-7270 or denise.wright@dpi.wi.gov.
