1. NEW BADGERLINK COORDINATOR

The Department of Public Instruction's Division for Libraries and Technology announces David McHugh has joined the Resources for Libraries and Lifelong Learning team as BadgerLink Coordinator. David will be responsible for ensuring all Wisconsin residents have access to the BadgerLink resources from home, work, school, library, or simply out and about. Prior to joining DPI, David was an Instructional Technology Assistant at University of Wisconsin-Madison Academic Technology (DoIT) where he provided first and second tier technical support to staff and instructors via phone and email, offered consultation to professors on effective use of their Course Management Software, developed an interactive learning game, produced media, and created and maintained multiple Drupal-based web sites. David has also worked for Epic Technical Services and UW Extension. He has experience performing software testing, evaluating web sites for web-accessibility and user-centered design, and providing social media instruction and software training.

BadgerLink is a statewide program that provides full-text information and multi-media from magazines, newspapers, reference materials, primary documents, as well as information on health, business, auto repair, children and adult literature. The BadgerLink Coordinator is responsible for providing access to the resources, and provides technical support to libraries, schools, businesses and users.


2. FEEDBACK REQUESTED FOR BADGERLINK GENEALOGY CAMP/BADGERLUNCH SURVEY

June 28, 2012, marked the final BadgerLunch of the season. The theme of the series was "BadgerLink Genealogy Camp" and focused on genealogy resources in BadgerLink.

Please complete this short survey about the BadgerLunch webinar training series. By completing this survey you will help us evaluate our current webinar format and content as well as provide insight into future trainings.

3. NOMINATE YOUR INSTITUTION FOR THE 2012 NATIONAL MEDAL FOR MUSEUM AND LIBRARY SERVICE

The Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) is accepting nominations for the 2013 National Medal for Museum and Library Service, the nation's highest honor for exemplary service by these institutions. Museums and libraries that would like to be considered for the National Medal should complete the nomination form by October 15, 2012.

The National Medal honors museums and libraries that make extraordinary civic, educational, economic, environmental, and social contributions. Public or private nonprofit museums, including art, history, science and technology, children's, and natural history museums; historic houses, nature centers, zoos, and botanical gardens; and all types of nonprofit libraries, including public, school, academic, research, and archival, are eligible to receive this honor. The winners are honored at a National Medal award ceremony held in Washington, D.C.

A complete application will include a five-page, single-spaced narrative; financial statements for the past two fiscal years; and up to three letters of support. These nominating materials are reviewed by members of the National Museum and Library Services Board, a presidentially appointed policy advisory board of IMLS. Based on their recommendations, the IMLS Director selects the final winners.

4. NATIONAL LIBRARY OF MEDICINE FUNDING OPPORTUNITY

In order to enhance the collaboration among libraries and disaster-related agencies, the National Library of Medicine is now soliciting proposals for disaster medicine and public health information improvement projects. Librarians are encouraged to apply for the contract awards, which range from $15,000-30,000 each for one-year projects. The deadline for proposals is Wednesday, August 8, 2012, at 2:00 p.m.

The funding opportunity is designed to improve access to disaster medicine and public health information for health care professionals, first responders and others that play a role in health-related disaster preparedness, response and recovery.
