2. PUBLIC LIBRARIES TO LEAD INITIATIVE TO ENSURE PUBLIC ACCESS TO DIGITAL CONTENT

The Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) has awarded a grant to OCLC to more fully understand the challenges that U.S. public libraries face in providing e-book content to borrowers, as they ensure that all Americans continue to have access to commercially produced content through their local public libraries, even as formats change. This initiative is called "The Big Shift: Advancing Public Library Participation in Our Digital Future." OCLC will partner with the American Library Association (ALA) and the Public Library Association (PLA) to review the e-book landscape and jointly develop recommendations for managing the e-book environment, in order to ensure adequate public access to these emerging resources. Read more at http://www.oclc.org/news/releases/2012/201243.htm.

3. LET'S READ! LET'S MOVE! SUMMER ENRICHMENT SERIES

Arne Duncan, U.S. Secretary of Education; Samuel Kass, personal chef to the First Family; Cornell McClellan, fitness consultant and personal trainer to the First Family; and Susan Hildreth, director of the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), launched this year's Let's Read! Let's Move! summer enrichment series at the U.S. Department of Education headquarters building in Washington on Wednesday, July 11. The goal of the series is to keep children moving, active, and reading over the summer months. More than 560 museums and gardens are participating in Let's Move! Museums & Gardens, and libraries in nearly all communities across the country are engaged in summer reading programs. For more information about Let's Move see http://www.letsmove.gov/.
