1. 675 APPLICANTS FILE FOR 2012 E-RATE SUPPORT 675

The E-rate program has a two-tiered application process and 675 schools and libraries in Wisconsin filed the initial application by the February 21 deadline. The next key date is March 20, which is the deadline for the final application form. (The 2012 E-rate funding year starts on July 1.) For the current E-rate funding year, which started July 1, 2011, schools and libraries in the state are eligible to receive $42 million in discounts on the cost of their Internet and telecommunication services. This is the highest amount since the E-rate program started in 1997.

The DPI E-rate website is at http://pld.dpi.wi.gov/pld_erate. The department also has an E-rate email list. Anyone in a school or library who works with the E-rate program is encouraged to subscribe to this list. Instructions are at http://pld.dpi.wi.gov/pld_wieratelist.
