1. REMINDER: LSTA SURVEY CLOSES FEBRUARY 28
This is just a reminder to those who received an invitation to complete an online survey on Wisconsin's use of federal LSTA (Library Services and Technology Act) funds that the survey closes on February 28. The invitation was sent last week to selective Wisconsin library community email lists. If you received more than one invitation, please complete the survey only once.
The survey results will be used to inform LSTA planning and funding decisions, including decisions that would be required in case of funding reductions. The survey results will also be of value as we conduct our required five-year LSTA evaluation and plan for a new five-year plan.
If you did not receive an invitation to complete the survey, you can request the survey link by sending an email to Jamie.McCanless@dpi.wi.gov. Please do not forward the survey link to others.
2. CELEBRATE NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK, APRIL 10-16, 2011
National Library Week is an annual celebration of the contributions of our nation's libraries and librarians. All types of libraries - school, public, academic and special - participate. The theme for this year's National Library Week is "Create your own story @ your library".
Looking for ways to raise awareness about libraries and library services during National Library Week? Check out the free promotional tools at the website below for ways to promote the message of National Library Week: http://www.ala.org/ala/conferencesevents/celebrationweeks/natlibraryweek/index.cfm.
3. CELEBRATE THE 8TH ANNUAL NATIONAL LIBRARY WORKERS DAY BY BEING A STAR
The American Library Association-Allied Professional Association (ALA-APA) invites you to celebrate National Library Workers Day (NLWD) on Tuesday, April 14. National Library Workers Day acknowledges the contributions of all library workers, including librarians, support staff and others who make services possible. This year marks the 8th year of National Library Workers Day, and ALA-APA wants to have "Stars" from every state, and even a few countries. Among other things, library employees help small business owners formulate plans, graduates find funding, children fall in love with literacy, grandparents connect with grandchildren, corporations save money and improve products and students get comfortable with the latest technology and gaming.
ALA-APA encourages you to nominate a "Star" library worker or group for their creativity, enthusiasm, customer service, or that special something they add to a library. Stars can be anyone - students, workers, supervisors, or even yourself - through the NLWD website at http://ala-apa.org/nlwd/?page_id=209%20/. New nominations will be showcased in the Galaxy of Stars on the NLWD website each week. Make sure that you nominate someone so that everyone can see their "Star" potential. Celebrating NLWD shows why library workers are more important than ever. You can even upload the Star's photo this year.
